Bere Island Theatre Troupe

The Bere Island Troupe will perform "Power of Darkness" by John McGahern on Saturday 16th February at the Lecture Theatre, Rerrin, Bere Island. Matinee performance at 2pm and evening performance at 8pm. Tickets are adults €10, concessions €7. For further information contact 027 75099. Cork Simon Community Drawn

Local man Ger O' Leary is running a xmas draw in aid of the Cork Simon Community. Tickets will be on sale in local shops and the draw will take place on Christmas eve in McCarthy's Bar, Castletownbere.

MARY MCPARTLAN PERFORMANCE ON BERE ISLAND

Singer Mary McPartlan, along with Tommy Peoples, Steve Cooney and special guests will be including a visit to Bere Island as part of their “Dark Horse on the Wind” tour. The performance will take place on Saturday 3rd November at 8pm in the Lecture Theatre, Rerrin. Tickets are €8 and concessions €5. A ferry will leave from the Pontoon at 7pm and return after the show. For further details contact 027 75099.

Laura just knew she had been there before. As she opened the small wooden gate and walked down the footpath that ran down the side of the house towards the back garden, she felt an overwhelming sense of deja vu. All her senses seemed acutely aware of what surrounded them- the sweet taste of the grass she had picked, the rough contours of the fence, the heady scent of holly-hocks and wall-flowers, the soft clucking of hens, and the sight of the cosy cottage, nestling amongst the myriad colours of nature’s palette- all felt strangely familiar.

I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw the lotto numbers on the window of Murphy’s grocery shop, my first reaction on see them was to shout out as loud as I could but I suddenly changed my mind and decided to ask the woman approaching me on the narrow street to call them out to me, but no I decided that was a worse idea. I continued walking down the street with a silent smile on my grubby face.
